FULTON, MS – The Lady Indians had a tough opponent on their hands for their first MACJC game this season. It was a tight game right to the end, but Jones County held on to pick up the 79-73 win.
"I don't think we performed as well as we did our last two games, but credit that to the Jones defense," said head coach Nanci Gray. "It's not a bad time to lose a game and we're still struggling with our identity, trying to find the kids who are cohesive and have chemistry."
The Lady Indians (2-1) had strong performances from sophomores Jayla Chills (Ripley) and Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch) and trailed by only two points (39-37) at halftime. Jones County applied a lot of defensive pressure but the Lady Indians were able to shoot 50 percent from the floor in the first half.
In the second half, the Lady Indians defense had their hands full with Kadie Parker, who shot 80 percent from the floor and scored a team high 23-points. However, the Lady Indians battled back to pull within five points despite getting the half off to a slow start.
The Lady Indians battled to try and overcome the slow start to the half, but the Lady Bobcats were able to hold on and pick up the 79-73 win.
"I thought we did a really good job of coming back several times and then we couldn't defend their play," said Gray. "I was real pleased with the last five I had on the court and we pulled within five but got in foul trouble again."
Chills led the Lady Indians with 22-points, followed by Kneeland with 13. Alontra Tucker (Lamar) chipped in 11.
ICC will travel to Snead State on Monday for their first road games of the season and tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
