PLANO, TX – The ICC men's tennis team picked up six wins during the opening day of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's DI National Tennis Tournament at Collin College in Plano, Texas.
David McElwain battled through a three-hour, seven-minute match to defeat Gerardo Gomez of Prairie State College (IL) in No. 4 singles action.
The sophomore from West Point rallied to force the second set into a tiebreaker and notched a 7-6 win before rolling over Gomez with a 6-1 victory in the final set to advance in the championship bracket.
McElwain teamed up with Austin McElwain (Corinth) to knock off Elliott Miller and Adam Ruckman of Lewis & Clark College (IL) 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles play.
Nathaniel Pinkney (Southaven) rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Cody Taplin of Lewis & Clark College before partnering with Cody Coins (Millington, TN) to defeat Josh McKinney and Brandon Yang of host Collin College (TX) 7-5, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles play.
Joseph Summers (Amory) defeated Connor Melton of Lewis & Clark College 6-2, 6-3 in No. 6 singles play. He later joined forces with Mark Robbins (New Albany) to close out the opening day of play with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Lewis & Clark's Melton and Taplin in No. 3 doubles action.

The six wins earned the Indains 12 points and put them in a five-way tie for second place after the first day of the Tournament. New Mexico Military Institute took the opening-round lead into the clubhouse with 14 points.
