FULTON, MS – The ICC men's tennis team entered this week with a new-found focus and a chip on their shoulder after a bold prediction of a rival program's "clean sweep" to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championships.
The Indians left little doubt in earning this year's MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 championships.
In singles action, the Indians had five players in a possible six championship matches on Saturday with No. 4 David McElwain (West Point), No. 5 Mark Robbins (New Albany), and No. 6 Joseph Summers (Amory) each earning individual titles.
In doubles play, ICC again nearly took up the entire marquee with two of the potential three title matches with the No. 2 tandem of McElwain and Austin McElwain (Corinth) and the No. 3 duo of Robbins and Summers bringing home individual championships.
For the Indians, the MACJC title was the program's sixth in the past seven season and 11th overall state championship while the region title was the second-straight championship and the seventh overall.
ICC will participate in the NJCAA National Tennis Tournament from May 9 to May 15 at the Collin County Tennis Facilities in Plano, Texas.
