The ICC men's tennis team had a strong opening the 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's National Tennis Tournament winning three of five singles matches on Monday at Collin County Community College in Plano, Texas.
In No. 1 singles play Nathan Pinkney (Southaven) defeated Ross Gan of Oakton Community College (IL) 6-1; 6-3 while Austin McElwain (Corinth) picked up 6-3; 6-0 wins over Nick Do of Glendale Community College (AZ) in the early morning matches.
David McElwain (West Point) won 6-2; 6-4 over College of DuPage's (IL) Justin Delawder in No. 3 singles play before Cody Coins' (Millington, TN) match against Todd Barajas of Temple College (TX) was delayed due to rain.
No make-up time or date has been announced for Coins' match.
Joseph Summers (Amory) was defeated 6-0; 6-0 by Mesa Community College's (AZ) Ryan Huss in No. 5 singles play while Drew Ballard (Tupelo) dropped 6-1; 6-0 decisions to Gavin Grivel of Laredo Community College (TX) in No. 6 singles action.
The Indians will be back in singles action on Tuesday with the winners advancing to the Round of 16 in the championship bracket while loser will move to the opening round of the consolation bracket.
